Konch Magazine - “Los Angeles” by Jamie Ung
Los Angeles

A place where you’ve failed before you’ve dreamt it
A tropical dystopia littered with rows of alien palm trees
And fissures of dry, cracked, earth
Where every breath is like drowning
Where they complain of drought
While filling their pools and watering their lawns
With twice a year floods that wipe out beemers
Where concrete is poured to solve problems
And dry rivers are painted
Where they worship Rhianna over Obama
With living silicone shopping on Rodeo Drive
While carrying their children in Louis Vuitton bags
Where you spend every penny on the next trend
While failing to pay rent
And walking around with an empty Starbucks cup
This is place of illusion where acting is a lifestyle
